Seasonal Decorating Tips for Your Home

Categories: Home Owner Tips | Posted: November 22, 2011 | No Comments »

Its that time of year to start decorating for the change of seasons and the holidays! From pumpkins to pilgrims and fall leaves followed right behind with sparkling lights, mistletoe, garland and trees. Your home will probably be undergoing a few transformations in the next few weeks and if you are a Do-It-Yourself decorator, here some great tips and items used for decorating that will help keep you and your family safe and from damaging your home this season.

First of all, safety is most important before you start hanging, stringing and placing  your decorations. Always check your lights for broken or cracked bulbs or sockets and inspect wires for frays or loose connections. Make sure that outdoor lights say on the label “for outdoor use”. Make sure that your power source, breakers and extension cords are able to take the voltage so you won’t have any shortages.

LED lights will help you save a ton on your electric bill. Buying all new LED lights may be expensive but replacing your old light strands as they quit working every year could be more economical.

Always remember to make sure that your ladder is level and secured by bungees before climbing up to decorate your roof.

Decorating Outside: You may want to string lights or wreaths on the outside of your home without punching holes in your siding. Look for stainless steel ‘no-hole hooks’ at your local home improvement center, that clip into and under your siding verses nailing holes.

When decorating your roof and edges, do not nail or staple lights. Bad idea. Holes are ugly and become water intrusion points that could create a rotten roof decking in time. There are Eave Clips that are available that can hook to the fascia of your home without damaging the roof.

Decorating Inside. When hanging up wall décor such as wreaths, seasonal paintings, lights and stockings, use the sticky-backed hooks (3M Command Strips) that come in all sizes and strengths that will support your decorations without making a hole. After the holidays are over, they can be taken down by carefully peeling the tab.

When purchasing your tree and decorations, make sure that they are fire-resistant. If you go with a live tree, check it for freshness and water daily. A fresh tree is very green and the needles are difficult to pull off of the branches. Always place your tree away from your fireplace or heater and out of the way of traffic.

Following these tips for your decorating this holiday season, will help ensure that you have are safe and happy while protecting your biggest investment, your home.

When you are beginning to look for a new home, you may not realize that there are many different elements that come together in order for you to find the perfect combination to build your dream home. Several people and factors of the builder’s team come into play, that will help you decide which home is best for you and your lifestyle. The builder’s team is there for you every step of the way to ensure that your needs are met and will make sure that you come away with a win.

The Builder’s Website. Because not all players on the builder’s team are people, factors such as the builder’s website is a good place to start looking and deciding if they are the right kind of builder for you. The sites will give you good information, photos, virtual tours and a look at their floorplans. From there, your next step is contacting their sales team.

The Sales Counselor. This is a key person on the builder’s team and they should put you first in mind, helping you find the perfect dream home. They should be dedicated and engage you in your search early on, helping you process the information that you find online.

The Model Home. Nothing compares to actually stepping into a builder’s model home and actually seeing the home first hand. You can examine the construction quality and all of the options such as cabinets, finishes and carpet to choose from. This is where you can visualize your new home the best, instead of looking at pictures and virtual tours for ideas.

The Community Manager. When you’ve finally decided the details of your new home and its in the process of being built, the community manager is the key player of the builder’s team that will educate you on the entire building process and keep you updated through each stage of progress. They will get you used to the community, introduce you to neighbors and answer any questions that you may have along the way.

The Builder’s Construction Team. As you are watching your new home being built, there are quite a few people involved from the superintendent and construction site manager to the framers, drywallers, painters, plumbers and electricians. They are all busy working on your home and are a part of the builder’s team that is responsible for turning the blueprint into a real home.

At Provenance, we are all a part of making your dream home happen. Contact our sales team today! They’ll help you pick out the perfect home or builder that fits your lifestyle. Be sure to check out each of our builders in our Builder’s Guild that can help you decide which one is best for you.
