Have a Safe & Fun Halloween!

Halloween night can be one of the most fun nights for kids dressing up, having fun with friends at parties and of course, getting all of that candy! It can also be very dangerous for children walking at night through the neighborhood. According to Safe Kids USA, children are are twice as likely to be hit by a car. Parents, many of you may already know some of these rules and follow them, but, make sure that your kids are safe by following these safety precautions.
- Stay on the sidewalks. Never dart into the street or cross between parked cars. ALWAYS look both ways before crossing and keep looking as you cross.
- Be careful when cars are turning or backing up. They may not see you.
- Make sure that your kids’ costumes are easily seen. Dark robes and black costumes are very hard to see at night. Have them wear reflectors on goodie bags or carry a glowstick or flashlight.
- Use face paint instead of wearing masks. Masks can limit the ability to see and it can fall down, completely covering the eyes. This is a risk while walking, kids could trip and fall or not see an oncoming car.
- Use caution when carrying vinyl Trick-or-Treat bags. They could contain lead, so any unwrapped candy should be discarded. There is always a concern of suffocation with any plastic bag so try trading it for a hard container instead. Decorating pillow cases can also be fun.
- Never allow children to eat candy until it has been inspected by parents or caregivers. Eat only treats in original and unopened wrappers.
If you plan on passing out candy at your house and expect some trick-or-treaters, you can also help kids safe by making sure your walk ways and stairs are well-lit and free of any obstacles. If you have jack-o’lanterns out, make sure that they are kept up on a sturdy table away from small children and flammable materials.
We hope that everyone has a very safe and happy Halloween and invite our residents to attend our annual Fall Fest this Saturday October 29th from 3-6pm.
There will be hayrides, a pumpkin contest & shine, costume contest, prizes, face painting, jumpers, treats & more!
